XHTML 1.0 Transitional documents are rendered in standards mode when delivered as application/xhtml+xml, but in almost standards mode in a Gecko based browser when delivered as text/html. Almost standards mode is similar to standards mode, except images inside table cells are dealt with in quirks mode, to cater for table based designs using sliced images. In standards mode, extra space appears between table rows.
